“Dead Poets Society” is the melancholy single of UK-based singer-songwriter Fitzrovia (Laura Gerhausser). The enchanting ballad talks about the idolization of people, and how it goes nowhere in the end. “It’s about letting go of the theory that the more you attach yourself to that person, the more you become a part of their world,” Fitzrovia said of the track. She also added, “They [that other person] won’t magically erase your problems or turn your life into a fairytale. That’s the lesson learned.”

Fitzrovia currently resides in UK, but her influences began as a young child in Germany, listening to jazz singers such as Ella Fitzgerald and Amy Winehouse. She also finds inspiration in many other artists like Kate Nash, The Beatles, Chopin, “you name it” she challenged.

On the track, Laura’s strong vocal performance is accompanied by a soft piano, creating a tender combination that strikes the listener’s emotions. The song transports you to a simple day in a world that you probably aren’t part of; a gloomy, rainy afternoon in a French café in the bygone era. The song is timeless in that sense; it’s a tune to which you can reminisce about life and think about the deeper things that truly matter. Additionally, the music video captures this feeling perfectly — it’s a strangely comforting, yet unsettling collection of film footage, tied together to portray the song’s story.
