Josie Proto impresses with her newest single, "Champagne Fizzles"

London-based singer/songwriter Josie Proto has been having a breakout year, having released multiple stellar singles including the most recent, titled “Champagne Fizzles.”
Thematically, “Champagne Fizzles” is a charming tune that explores the vulnerability of liking someone and wanting to spend all your time with that one person. With a sound inspired by the likes of Kate Nash and Norah Jones, it captivates with an acoustic melody and soft-sung lyrics; it paints a pretty picture through using the endearing charm of Josie’s voice and the simple acoustic guitar melody. It tugs at one’s heartstrings, and is perfect for a rainy day or when you need a happy little pick me up.
The lyric video for the song perfectly captures its essence, with a rainy scene driving down country roads. Both the track and its video create a nice little escape from the world, which is very much needed with all the craziness of this year!
Speaking about the track, Josie said: “Although it is one of my older songs, ‘Champagne Fizzles’ is one of my favourite original songs. I remember writing it in winter about wanting to spend time listening to other people talking about themselves and their lives. It’s about finding comfort in other people’s secrets and feeling close to someone through conversation. It sings like a love song, but the essence of the story is about friendship and understanding someone inside and out. This was one of the first songs I wrote on guitar that I tried to follow the melody that I had in my head exactly, rather than simplifying it so I could play it. It took a while to learn to play ‘Champagne Fizzles’ because I was still teaching myself guitar when I wrote it.”
With her simple yet infectious melodies and voice, Josie is bound to have more success come her way (especially with her new EP, Oh What a Godawful Stupid Idea, set to be released on January 27 — pre-order here).
