Okey Dokey Finds "The Right Fit" with their New MV

By Mallory Haynes

Nashville-based indie-pop band-turned-cult, Okey Dokey, takes us on a journey to peace in their video for their new single, “The Right Fit,” which serves as an introduction to their new ethos. Yes, you heard that correctly—Okey Dokey recently announced that they no longer exist as a band, but instead, as a community. The duo—vocalist Aaron Martin and guitarist Johny Fisher—realized that fostering a cultish community would be the most efficient way to truly connect to their audience, and so, that’s what they’ve done. That said, along with recruiting high-esteemed members such as pro skateboarder, Tony Hawk, Okey Dokey allowed other community members to contribute audio to be featured throughout their upcoming album, Once Upon One Time. For now, “The Right Fit” introduces the band’s new concept.

The opening scene for the video features your average “indie dude” sitting on the couch, fixating on a fuzzy television set. Though at first, he looks troubled, he soon becomes immersed as Martin begins to sing. A number flashes on the screen, and the viewer dials the number. As bursts of color and rippling waves intensify on the screen, our friend is suddenly sucked through the TV, Poltergeist style (but definitely in a friendlier fashion, here).

Once the confused viewer enters the TV land of Okey Dokey, he is greeted by Martin and Fisher, who become his mentors. They welcome him into the community with open arms, talking with him and guiding him through the surrounding nature. Eventually, each of the three finds colorful blocks, which hold the power of teleportation when put together. Then, the trio is suddenly transported through an ominous, infrared door and into a rainbow-walled euphoria. Martin and Fisher first appear in the room as orb-like creatures, greeting the human viewer with otherworldly vibes. The final scene closes with our friend picking up a glowing pile of clothes—he has finally found the right “fit.”

In “The Right Fit,” Okey Dokey shows us it is possible for individuals to find peace within themselves if they follow their instincts. Join the community for more enlightenment, and stay tuned for Okey Dokey’s upcoming album, Once Upon One Time, which tackles topics such as anxiety, sobriety, relationships, and self-love.

Keep up to date with Okey Dokey!
