Listen to is your bedroom ceiling bored? (feat. Cavetown) on Spotify. Sody · Song · 2020.

Sody and Robbie from Cavetown have teamed up to create a bittersweet bedroom pop song, combining their beautiful sense of lyricism and different musical backgrounds. Its rhythmic beat and the raw vocals beg the question,“is your bedroom ceiling bored?,” over and over, turning it from a nonsensical phrase into a powerful and melancholy sentiment.

Lyrically, “is your bedroom ceiling bored?” combines Robbie and Sody’s emotive and poignant styles into a beautiful pop song. Robbie and Sody parallel the moon and the sun as they sit in their bedrooms singing to each other. The song paints a moving story with just a few simple elements.

As Sody puts it, “‘is Your Bedroom Ceiling Bored?’ is for my fellow overthinkers. It’s [for] when you’re staring at your ceiling at 4 AM, looking for answers, and wondering what someone is thinking. It’s when you write paragraphs to someone over text but then delete it and respond ‘I’m okay.’ I imagine so many of us are experiencing this in isolation, which unites us all!”

Musically, the sound strongly reflects Sody’s mellow, electronic style. Hearing Robbie work outside of his acoustic style (his comfort zone) and focus more on his vocals on this track was lovely.

It’s also evident how much effort was put into the production behind “Is your bedroom ceiling bored?.” The strong beat grows louder as the song progresses, crescendoing into a powerful duet of a chorus, and dropping once more for each vocalist’s respective part. Robbie describes it like this: "I love the lyrics and production of this song so I was excited to work on it. I don't typically write songs like this, so it was intriguing to dip my toes into a track that had a bit more of a pop vibe. Getting to know Sody throughout the process was a major bonus, as she's super cool and fun to work with!"

Sody and Cavetown have many similarities in background, both having started releasing music at age 14 and growing up in England. Sody has been featured as Artist of the Week on Apple, as Spotify’s RADAR “First Listen,” and as a Discover Weekly artist on Amazon. Likewise, Robbie’s band, Cavetown, is incredibly popular and found in many niches of the internet, amassing 1.4 million Youtube subscribers and 250M Spotify plays alone, playing sold-out headline performances at venues like Los Angeles’ Fonda Theatre, New York City’s Webster Hall, and London’s Shepherd’s Bush Empire, and more.

“is your bedroom ceiling bored?” combines the best of the two artists’ talents to produce an iconic bedroom pop song that teens are sure to lament over for years to come.  Hopefully, Sody and Cavetown will continue to work together and challenge each other’s songwriting abilities.

Keep up date with Sody and Cavetown!
