Avenue Beat: The Country-Pop Hybrid Changing the Soundscape

By McKayla Dyk

Illinois girl-band Avenue Beat consists of Sami Bearden, Savana Santos and Sam Backoff. This self-proclaimed “genzennial collective are strong, smart, fun – in love with life, each other and getting on with it.” Their new self-titled EP releasing July 26 backs up the claim.

In their debut EP, Avenue Beat showcases their fun side, but they aren’t playing around. With old-school Taylor Swift vibes, the trio cleverly pairs their quirky sense of humor with poppy melodies and acoustic influences to create four upbeat ballads that will easily become the soundtrack of your summer.  Avenue Beat is creating a vibrant space for country and pop to coexist.

In an industry saturated with electro-pop, female rappers and not-so-humble brags, Avenue Beat brings us back to the basics. With tight harmonies and relatable lyrics, this EP takes us on a slow, refreshing summer drive and we’re laughing the whole way.

The first single “Delight” perfectly introduces the group with humor, confidence and just enough angst. Because every girl needs to be reminded that she’s “a freakin delight.” The next number “Be A Bro” is the musical girl code we didn’t know we needed. “Ruin That For Me” slows us down only for a moment as we get over whatever is holding us down. Then “Broke” brings it all home by reminding us that even if less isn’t more, it’s still “good enough.”

Whether you’re in need of a pick-me-up or you’re already gassed up and ready for a summer of fun, Avenue Beat’s EP is the perfect prescription. These girls keep it light and real. They know their audience and they know their potential. I have a feeling this is only the beginning.
