MKNLY Drops Powerful Music Video for "You Can't Stay"

By: Maria Kornacki

MKNLY, consisting of four members, originally formed in summer of 2017 directly following their debut EP “Something To Stand Behind” which launched their career. The North Carolina-based alternative rock band is rising higher with their newly released 5-track EP, "When I'm Lonely," out on all digital platforms now.

The band’s latest single "You Can’t Stay”, remains true to their alternative and pop sound. Head-banging drums from Anthony Hamilton elevate the emotional vocals from Benjamin Green. The “You Can’t Stay” music video reveals darker elements from the beginning.

Suicide is a serious matter that leaves loved ones at a loss in more ways than one. MKNLY brought this message home in the first few seconds you see on the screen with the phrase: “The person who commits suicide dies once. Those left behind die a thousand deaths, trying to relive those terrible moments and understand...why?” Ending the music video on the same note, the same message repeats. Underneath this phrase both times is the National Suicide Prevention Hotline number (call 1-800-273-8255). Music has been the healing force inspiring Green’s raw lyricism, which often involve his own personal life struggles.
